American Robins Attacking Reflection Rather Than Enemy

imageby Hazel Straub

An American robin has nested close to my house. The male robin is extremely territorial and defends the area where the nest is from other robins. Robins have exceptional eyesight, which is better than human eyes. This male bird, however, has a problem. He thinks that his reflection is another bird threatening his territory and nesting mate. The robin spreads its wings with talons outstretched and repeatedly hits the window thinking he is attacking another bird invading his territory. He spends nearly 24 hours a day doing this, as we have the midnight sun now.  He doesn’t spend much time sleeping but is vigilant. The only problem is he is fighting his own reflection exhausting himself needlessly.

Listening to Holy Spirit, I learned this is what many of us Christians do. We have keen eyesight but no wisdom and expend all our energy on attacking ourselves or another part of the body of Christ. Exhausting our strength and risking injury,  we lack discernment about the true enemy. Ask God for wisdom, love your brothers and yourself.

Restored To Pristine Condition

IMG_1750By Hazel Straub

You are restored, rejuvenated, renewed, resuscitated and revived, as you turn in full surrender to Yeshua and turn from your wicked ways. You are covered with the demon busting, power packed blood, of the Lamb of God that takes away your sin. What the devil stole is being restored. You are spotless in Daddy God’s sight, redeemed and better than new. Rejoice!

Adhere To Heaven’s Thinking

by Hazel Straub

Adhere to heaven’s thinking. “Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus.” (Hebrews 3:1)

Unique And One Of A Kind

You are unique, a one of kind person. No one is like you. Set apart for the Master’s use and ready to do his will. Your assignment is also special and if you don’t do it, something is lacking from the body of Yeshua.

When you’re not there, the deficiency is felt and breaks unity, as does missing pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. Each piece joins the others but the ones missing mar the puzzle.  Each person  is important  and needed to make a beautiful picture of Yeshua,  all conjoined in their designated places.Their differences in shape, color, and variety helps make each one part of a bigger picture.

Season Of Sudden Blessings

by Hazel Straub

God often speaks to me through the weather. Winter weather lingered longer than normal this year, in Alaska. It was still snowing with temperatures in the 20’s F (-3.33 C) with less than two weeks left in May. A week later the snow that had accumulated, since October, was finally melting. The trees, however, showed no sign of their leaves springing forth anytime soon. However, the temperatures that had been cool, soared to the mid-80’s F and the trees that had appeared brown and lifeless, suddenly had leaves unfurling. By the third day, the green leaves did not look new but full and mature. In a short moment, we went from winter to summer.

When I asked the Lord, what this meant. He said, “Get ready for sudden change. This is the season of sudden blessings. The last season might have seemed difficult and long but suddenly everything changes.  Delayed promises do not mean denial. Get ready to receive the sweetness of my goodness, suddenly.”

Sin Weeds And God Our Gardener

by Hazel Straub

Weeds grow in the flower bed. Today I pulled a number of small baby weeds that had popped up overnight. Although the roots were longer than the weed, they were thin and came out easily. They did not have to time to establish themselves. But if I had waited to deal with them, they would have spread with deep intertwining roots and been more difficult to pull.

Holy Spirit began to speak about the weeds or sins that sprout in our hearts. When a thought first enters the mind, it is easy to take it captive through Christ Jesus and pull it, like a baby weed. However, if we entertain thoughts of pride in how we conduct our lives, think about our desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes, our sinful actions become firmly rooted, deep and twisted around our hearts. These deep-rooted sins grow because of our cultivating thought life and sin. We have to cry out to God our Gardener, in total surrender, relying on his help to overcome these entrenched sinful behaviors, with the roots destroyed.

1 John 2:16 (ABPE)
For everything that is in the world: the desire of the body and the lust of the eyes and the pride of temporal life, these are not from The Father but these are from the world.

Change Your Mind’s Focus And Mature

by Hazel Straub

It all begins with the mind. As a man thinks, so is he. Whatever thoughts you dwell and meditate upon is what you become. Focus your mind on God, not your struggles and change will manifest from your inside to the outside of you.

Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

God Didn’t Make Us Robots

by Hazel Straub

God doesn’t compel us to go against his will, he just makes us willing to go. Jonah resisted the call to preach repentance to his enemies. Although, he went the other direction, God provided a storm and then a great fish to swallow him. After three days in the fish, he was vomited onto dry ground and went where God instructed. It is easier to obey the first time. Is there something God has asked you to do? Don’t wait, do it today!

Total Impossibility Brings Breakthrough

by Hazel Straub

Boxed in and nowhere to turn? You cannot retreat due to your enemy nipping at your heels and a huge obstacle in front of you that is impossible. Praise God! What is impossible for man is easy for God. Only he can get you out of the dilemma. Total dependency, on God brings breakthrough.

Many times we cry to God, when things get difficult but depend upon ourselves, when things are going well. Sometimes we get into a situation where there is no way out but for God. The children of Israel had Pharoah and his army pursuing them and the Red Sea in front of them. Impossible? God had a plan and they went over on dry ground and then saw their enemy destroyed. God is the same today as yesterday and does not change. Look for a miraculous breakthrough, over the things that have defeated you in the past. Know that God delights in last-minute deliverance, from your enemy!
