Discouraged?

by Hazel Straub

Discouraged about your circumstances? Are others blaming you for things going wrong? David and his men had come back to their city and found that the enemy had come in their absence, burned the city, taken their wives and children captive and stolen their property and herds. His men blamed David and wanted to kill him but David encouraged himself and found strength in Yahweh his God. Then he asked God what to do and went and found the enemy, recovered all their loved ones, and stolen property. (1 Samuel 30)

Do not depend on others to inspire, spur and strengthen you, but encourage yourself and get strength from God, who is your help. Tell yourself that God is for you and gives you help to overcome. Change how you think and see your life change!

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. (1 Samuel 30:6 KJV)
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7 AMPC)

  5. Thank you for sharing this. Just today I read “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” – Proverbs 24:10 KJV. My biggest takeaway from your post is to find inspiration, encouragement, and strength from God.

  14. Thanks so much for this timely reminder that when others do not provide the encouragement and support we are desperately seeking, we can encourage ourselves in the Lord and find the help we desire in the time of need.
