God Pleasing Or People Pleasing?

by Apostle Gabriel Cross

Please do not discount or devalue the unconditional love and approval of God, for the conditional love and approval of others. Many today, have diminished and replaced the approval of God, with the “like button,” on Facebook or other social media sites. We have become more consumed with “who likes me,” and “who loves it,” and not with the “One whom created me,” and “unconditionally loves me.”

For example, we all desire to be heard, but sometimes, God desires us to be silent, or to study to be quiet. Some have no accountability to others, because they have no accountability to God. Therefore, they are prone, or liable to, post anything, whether it’s pleasing to God or not. We are not our own, but we belong to Yahweh. Therefore, when you live for the approval of others, you already have your reward. However, when you live for the approval of the King of kings, you realize you’re already approved and even greater will be your reward.

Don’t trade God’s approval for the approval of people. Don’t reduce your life in Christ, to living by the impulse of what other people are thinking, saying on social media, on the news, and in the world. When it’s God, it’s God, and when it’s not, it’s not.

Don’t determine if you’re right with God, or how anointed you are, based on how many likes and hits you receive. You remember, David got in trouble for counting numbers (1 Chronicles 21; 2 Samuel 24:1).

Don’t fall for the gimmicks and tricks of the enemy: “If you post this you’ll be blessed, if you don’t you’ll be cursed.” “Share this with 5 people and you’ll be blessed with an angel tonight.” If you hit like on this, you’re not ashamed of God, if you don’t hit like, then you are.” These are all gimmicks, clichés, and schemes of the enemy. God has not called you to live by these things, you are called to live in Truth, every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

Live for the One, who can create and end life, and raise it up again, not for the one who can only end it. Live a genuine fruitful life in Christ, not one that is predicated on the opinions, idioms, and the superficial of social media. All these things are subject to change, but the Word of God does not, it only changes your life, forever.

This is the exact same reason I am struggling with continuing with my word press blog. It is a lot of work, and I just don’t want to be tied to my computer 24/7. I have paid for a partnership with another blog until the end of the year. Whenever I take this issue to the Lord, I get the same answer.

You will have to follow the Lord’s voice. It is easy to play the numbers but so important to follow God’s directions. Blessings as you flow him.

Good post! I’ll never forget my righteous indignation when I got my first Christian “blackmail” post like one of the above. I did lol thinking of the utter hypocrisy of the unbeliever who sent it.

Yes, it is so important to be grounded in pleasing God rather than man. Then we can never be disappointed by what others do or do not do.

Well said! I would say also, not to allow false teachers to gain your allegiance rather than Christ. In my post Replacing Jesus with your Pastor I spoke about this very thought and I’m thrilled to see it here!

I have a lot of this come through my FB feed also and it is really sad, I have had to “gently” comment on some of the memes, I have noticed they are usually in reference to “Pentecostals” but I think much of that I have seen borders on Blasphemy and the “chain” blessing posts is especially sad and people have a tendency to think it is okay to do something just because everyone else does. Great post, needs said!
