Captured By God’s Love

by Hazel Straub

God wants to capture your heart, your mind-what occupies your thought life, your will-the determination to do something and your emotions. When you have a grateful heart towards God, your thinking will change towards your circumstances. Submitting to the will of God, not your own, expresses worship. Thankfulness and not complaining, will change you, from offended and bitter to rejoicing and sweetness. Your light will shine and the darkness will recede.

But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.  (Joel 2:13 NIV)

  2. God is so awesome and makes me laugh often. I just saw your blog.
    The following is what He blessed me with this morning… more confirmation.

    “Whatever is in your heart determines what you say. Your speech mirrors the condition of your heart. Your heart represents the inner most part of your thoughts, desires and emotions. If your heart is filled with bitterness, your speech will be tainted by it.
    Your attitude is just as important as you actions. Jesus was just as worried that you may be angry at someone as he was as you hurting someone. Can you say you have never felt anger at someone?
    Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

  3. Thank you for this reminder today. Even though I know these things are true, they are obviously not perfected yet in any of these spheres; mind, where I still deal with nagging thoughts of problems yet unsolved; will, where I stubbornly charge ahead; and my emotions, where the resulting unrest lodges. Praise God, in whom we are more than Conquerors though Him who loves us!

    • God is still working on us! When we turn our thoughts from our problems and start worshipping God for his incredible love, we experience a shift in our thinking. We can do all things through Christ Jesus!

  5. Hazel,

    Great post! This change you so beautifully write about took place in my life. I am also a witness that it is possible with God’s help to be grateful under pain and hardship. I think many Christians have experienced this. God is good.
