Do your options all look dismal? You are in a bad place but all the options do not appear good from your perspective. You look at your options with fleshly eyes and discouragement is your portion. But God has another option for you and abundant provision, in an unlikely place. He promises to provide for you, when your situation seems hopeless.
The city of Samaria was under siege from their enemies who surrounded the city and the people were starving. They were even selling dove dung for a high price and eating it.
Four lepers that were outcasts had a flash of great insight. They were outside the city, at the gate and said if they went into the city they would die. If they stayed where they were they would die. If they moved and went to the enemy’s camp they had a chance to live or might die. They could not go back to the past, nor stay where they were but needed to go forward. The possibility was death at the hand of the enemy or that they could get mercy and food.
Taking a risk the lepers went forward, found the camp of the enemy deserted. Yahweh had made the enemy hear the sound of horses and chariots. They thought another army was coming to attack them and so they fled leaving everything behind them.. The risk taking lepers found ample food, clothing and riches. The famine ended. (See 2 Kings 7:1-20)
Remember, you can’t go back, can’t stay where you are but must go forward. Take a risk, have faith and find unexpected provision and abundant life that comes from Yahweh’s hand. Believe God’s word that he suddenly changes your famine into abundant provision.
Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: ‘About this time tomorrow at the gate of Samaria, a seah of fine flour will sell for a shekel, and two seahs of barley will sell for a shekel.’” (2 Kings 7:1 BSB)
Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Arameans. It was then that a seah of fine flour sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD. (2 Kings 7:16 BSB)
