Who Are You?

by Hazel Straub

Orphans focus on the lack in their life. “I need this and I need that.” They compete and strive for attention with other orphans because they think they won’t get what need, as they feel alone. They beg for notice, are insecure and fear abandonment. They compare themselves to others, without knowing their identity.

Sons focus on what they have. Sons live in their father’s house and have access to their father that provides all their needs. They know their father takes good care of them and they have access to him because they are sons. Their father loves them and they know he is available because they carry their father’s name and are sons.

Are you a son or an orphan, when you come before your Daddy God in prayer? He has promised to never leave you because you are his son. Your inheritance is the same as his son, Jesus the Messiah. He provides for all your needs, so you will not lack or want.

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. (Ephesians 1:5-8 NLT)

  1. “They compare themselves to others, without knowing their identity.”
How common this is, Hazel. But like you said, a child of God knows who their Father is. Yes, and Amen!

  3. Thank you for this message so many of us never realize the gifts that
God has for us and He is always waving saying “Look over here”! We must let those of us who do not realize that the Spirit of the Lord lives on inside of each of us.

    • Audrey, you are welcome! So many believers don’t realize their identity as children of God. Instead they live as orphans. Yes, each of us are the Temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16)
