Caleb Gets Breakthrough!

The definition of breakthrough is overcoming or penetrating an obstacle or restriction. All of us have areas in our lives where we cry to God for help in overcoming obstacles. We are in a season of breakthrough. The key to breakthrough is having a determined spirit that will not take no for an answer and will trust God.

Caleb was one of twelve spies sent by Moses to report on the Promised Land before the Israelites entered the land. Ten of the spies brought a bad report and spread fear to the people. Caleb was a man of a different spirit and desired to serve God wholeheartedly. He along with Joshua tried to persuade the Israelites to go and take the land. They, however, refused and wanted to kill him instead. Caleb had to wander in the wilderness for forty years with the children of Israel, although he had done nothing wrong. All of his generation died in the wilderness except himself and Joshua.

At age 85, he decided to take his mountain in the Promised Land that had giants and strong fortifications. He remembered that God had promised him this land forty-five years earlier. Caleb knew with God’s help he would be able to take the fortresses of the giants and drive them out of his land because he was strong and vigorous. The breakthrough for Caleb came because he followed Yahweh the God of Israel fully and was not afraid of warfare. Caleb knew that Yahweh was watching out for him and would help him overcome his enemies. He took his land and received his increase for himself and his descendants.

Today it is time to believe that you have the strength and power to come through the attack of the enemy, victorious. Follow God with your whole heart, believe his promises, worship him and overcome the giants occupying your inheritance.

When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.
But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
(Proverbs 29:18 NLT)

  4. FWIW the last time I read that part of Joshua I got the idea that Mrs. Caleb (and Mrs. Joshua) stayed youthfully strong too, because that’s consistent with God’s character. 😊

    • That is a definite possibility. Abraham and Sarah both got young, so kings kidnapped her for their haram and she gave birth at age 90! Abraham lived to 175 and had a bunch of kids with his second wife Keterah!
