Show mercy and compassion first, to yourself, before you can give it to others. If you fail to be merciful to yourself, you will have none to give to others. We receive mercy and compassion from our Heavenly Father, and need to extend it to ourselves first, so we can show others the same. No criticism, condemnation, and judgment in your flesh, for yourself or others. God is merciful and compassionate to us. Also, in the same manner we receive forgiveness, forgive ourselves for mistakes and extend it to others. Giving mercy, compassion, and forgiveness are the best gifts, we can give to ourselves and to everyone else.
What you measure to others, comes back to you. This is a key to having an abundant life, with overflow!
“Overflow with mercy and compassion for others, just as your heavenly Father overflows with mercy and compassion for all.” Jesus said, “Forsake the habit of criticizing and judging others, and you will not be criticized and judged in return. Don’t condemn others and you will not be condemned. Forgive over and over, and you will be forgiven over and over. Give generously and generous gifts will be given back to you, shaken down to make room for more. Abundant gifts will pour out upon you with such an overflowing measure that it will run over the top! The measurement of your generosity becomes the measurement of your return.” (Luke 6:36-38 TPT)

As partakers of the divine nature (joined in to the body of Christ), we should always be extending mercy and compassion. Else, how does anyone know there is a divine nature we have and this divine nature has us!

Yes, we should always extend mercy, compassion and forgiveness as partakers in the body of Christ. But this does not always happen.

Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourself–thanks for the powerful reminder that as God forgives us, He wants us to forgive ourself!

Some believe to think of self first is selfish, but we are instructed to make sure we have before helping another, for you can’t pour from an empty cup. God always renews our strength to extend to others by His spirit. Blessings Always over you Hazel.

Yes, Julia, we can not run on empty or give out of an empty cup. If we do not love ourselves and show our mercy first to ourselves, we can’t give to others. We extend mercy to ourselves and have plenty for others. Abundant overflowing life, love, light, mercy, and compassion to you, Julia and yours.
