The Spirit Of Selective Hearing

by Apostle Gabriel Cross

The Lord just revealed to me, the spirit of “SELECTIVE HEARING.”

“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good, the best, the fat, the wealth of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured, consumed, eaten up, with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.” (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭1:19-20‬) ‭

This is a powerful prophetic Word from the Lord. However, people with the spirit of selective hearing, only hear it this way, “I will eat the good the best, the fat, and the wealth of the land. I am not rebellious I just choose to do what I want, you know, I follow my heart or my feelings”. We the believers, the righteous of God, can’t live by subjectivity. This is the spirit of “SELECTIVE HEARING.”

Be careful Beloved, because this spirit treats the Bible like it’s a menu, at a restaurant, it doesn’t revere God’s prophets, as God’s spokespersons, but caters to the desires of the flesh, not the Spirit of the Lord. This spirit says what the flesh wants. Then perpetrates that God is saying it, when it’s actually the person speaking to themselves and being led by their emotions and not by pure devotion, in obedience to God.

In the natural, SELECTIVE HEARING means lacking the ability to distinct, identify or filter one voice or sound from the other. It is also characterized as the action, where people focus their attention, on a specific source of a sound or spoken words. They only hear what they want to hear. They only hear it the way they interpret it, in lieu of allowing the Holy Spirit to give the revelation.

Similarly, the spiritual realm, it is when a person lacks a pure heart to distinct, identify, or filter the voice of the enemy, the voice of human reasoning, from the Voice of the Lord. In other words, a person with SELECTIVE HEARING has a heart deficiency, their heart deceives them (Jeremiah 17:9-10).

A prayer I love to pray is: “Holy Spirit show me the errors of my ways, and expose any deception or untruth in my heart, because I want to please you, not my flesh.”

This is true worship, and pure hearing the Father…Selah

  1. Thanks for this truth. We all need this understanding. It’s good to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith, “or not?”

  4. This is spot on, brother Gabriel! Living in the flesh, rather than under the influence of the Holy Spirit, makes us vulnerable to the selective hearing you mention. Our hearts (apart from Christ) are naturally deceptive. This is why we must always take our walk with God seriously. Again, this is a good word, brother—straight from God’s throne!

  6. When it comes to selective hearing we hear what we want to hear. Which often leaves us missing from hearing the truth. Great post.

  8. We all do it don’t we, I suppose there’s a sense of brilliance in noticing it so that we can decide how to address the situation and be more in control

    • Yes, we can take control over the spirit of selective hearing through Jesus and cast it out. We can choose to listen.
