Love In Action

by Hazel Straub

In the English language the word, “love,” has many applications. One can love a car, a certain food, the weather, be infatuated with someone, or show love through our actions. Love is more than a word spoken, it includes compassion and care for others. Love in words and action, not withholding from others, what is in your power to give. One kind, compassionate and loving deed, brings God’s presence, when it shows the same love you received from God through his Son Jesus. As we show love to others, without ulterior motives, it breaks barriers and spreads love to many.

This is how we have discovered love’s reality: Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Because of this great love, we should be willing to lay down our lives for one another. If anyone sees a fellow believer in need and has the means to help him, yet shows no pity and closes his heart against him, how is it even possible that God’s love lives in him?  Beloved children, our love can’t be an abstract theory we only talk about, but a way of life demonstrated through our loving deeds. We know that the truth lives within us because we demonstrate love in action, which will reassure our hearts in his presence. (1 John 3:16-19 TPT)

  4. The English word ‘love’ entails so many different meanings, which can be very confusing at times. In the Latin bible, the Vulgate, we find at least four different words for love each one carrying its own distinct meaning. For example, God’s love for us means he has chosen us. How good to know this!

  8. Love is such a powerful emotion that can move us to do things we normally wouldn’t do. That’s why Jesus commanded us to show love. John 13:34,35 says, “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are my disciples—if you have love among yourselves.” Love is a perfect bond of union and when we show it to others we reflect the beautiful qualities of our Heavenly Father. (1 John 4:8; Colossians 3:14)

    • Yes, when we show love to others, it is very powerful. As Jesus gave his life for us, so we are to lay down our lives for others. Blessings of God’s love!
