God Our Gardener

by Hazel Straub

Spend more time listening than talking. Slow to speak.

God, our gardener, implants the Word in our souls. Life transformation comes, when we receive him, with meekness. It is time to listen and quickly obey his instructions. This produces change with a life that produces God’s fruit.

Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. (James 1:19-24 MSG)

  1. Lord Jesus, be my mirror. Reveal my inner heart so that I may cast out what You find offensive. I don’t want to reflect anything but You. I need help, have mercy on Your servant. Forgive my sins known and unknown, I desire You and nothing less. We praise You Jesus, Amen.

    • Amen! Jesus hears and answers!

  2. My morning has been full of devotional reminders to watch my mouth. Hmmm. I suppose I better pay attention today!! 😀

    • It’s so much easier to listen with a closed 👄!

  3. Our quiet times are full of us and our speaking. As you said, listening part is less. But that’s what is highly important.
We have to sit and still in the presence of God to hear from Him.
Instead of running here and there for answers, I believe Father God speaks to us directly.
Only thing believe that He will speak and give some quality time for Him.

    • Yes, God is always speaking but we need to get quiet and listen.

  4. Reblogged this on emotionalpeace.

    • Thank you for the reblog. Blessings!
