Types Of People Who Attend Church

imagesby Apostle Gabriel Cross

Five types of people who come to church:

1. They come out of obligation, as if they’re doing God a favor.

2. They come focusing on everyone else’s issues, to take mental tally of who didn’t come, or new people who came (but never bringing anyone to Christ or inviting others on consistent basis. These are the “I’m saved, and I’m filled with the Holy Spirit and no one else).

3. They come because it’s Sunday, don’t really have a purpose, they could hit or miss, because they have no accountability, no healthy relationship with God and the community of Christ. Matthew 28, they never go out into the world, share the good news and compel others to Christ through their conversation and life.

4. They come because they have a ministry duty, or their identity is wrapped up in what they do in church because if they didn’t get to do their duty they wouldn’t come, or Christ wouldn’t matter to them. Being caught up in works, but not caught up in the One they supposedly work for. Never realizing that their main duties are Matthew 28:18-20: The Great Commission, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:3-5)5.

5. Then there are those who realize they are the church, and their purpose to be saved and help save, rescue, throw out the lifeline for others, to come to Christ and advance the Kingdom of God.

  1. I think this is just the beginning of the list! 🙂

    6. They come because they know something is missing in their lives, but they aren’t sure what. They have been invited by a #5, felt the nudging of God even if they can’t explain it and have come to check out the church. #6 is the heart that God has softened to respond to the truth of the the Gospel!

    • There are certainly many reasons that people come to church. God definitely draws the lost to him.

  2. Great post! Thanks for sharing!
