The Battle Is Not Yours But Yahweh’s

imagesby Hazel Straub

How often have you become discouraged when faced with a battle? You look with your natural eyes, see strong forces arrayed against you and wonder, if you have any possibility of victory. In the natural, your enemies surround and taunt you. However, Yahweh speaks and tells you not to fear or become discouraged because he fights for you.

The nation of Judah faced this challenge. The king allied himself with an evil king and then Judah’s  enemies invaded their land. The king and the people humbled themselves with fasting and prayer, seeking Yahweh’s help. Then a prophet spoke a word, telling them that God would fight the battle. Their king and all the people worshipped God and praised him for his love. As the nation united in worship, the king sent Judah (praise) before the regular army.

As the praise and worship ascended, Yahweh set ambushes against the enemy, who was invading Judah. Confusion reigned in the camp of the enemy and they destroyed each other. Judah looked where the vast army had positioned themselves. All they saw were dead bodies!

Worship of Yahweh and focusing on him and not the enemy is powerful. The king and his men gathered the plunder, which took three days. On the fourth day, he led all the men of Judah to Jerusalem, where they went into the temple of Yahweh with harps, lutes and trumpets. As a result of the people worshipping Yahweh, a supernatural fear from God came on all the nations who had heard how Yahweh fought against the enemies of Israel. Peace reigned in Judah because Yahweh gave him rest against his enemies.

Let praise and worship fill your mouth. You will see your enemies defeated without your having to fight!

He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. (2 Chronicles 20:15 NLT)
