Yahweh Set A Guard At My Mouth

by Hazel Straub

Many times negative words come out of our mouths more than faith filled, uplifting words. At times, one heedlessly blurts out something and immediately regrets it but the damage remains. Our speech is a product of our heart, the mind, will and emotions. It is time to cry out to Yahweh for help.

O Yahweh, set a guard at my mouth.
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not let me be persuaded to do anything evil
or to become involved with wickedness,
with people who are troublemakers.
Do not let me taste their delicacies. (Psalm 141:3-4 NOG)

Purify my heart and cleanse me from within of my sin.
Create a clean heart in me and renew a faithful spirit within me.
Restore the joy of salvation in me and
Provide me with a spirit of willing obedience. (Psalm 51)

AMEN! Very well said and much needed for all of us. If we all exercised more care in what we speak. Thanks for the great reminder!

Thank you! It’s when we cry for Yahweh’s help, relying on him instead of ourselves that we mature.

Seconds before reading your Blog negative words were flowing out of my mouth, I work so hard not to do this, then I do it and I beat myself up! Thank you for sharing something that hit home for me in such a positive way! You must have known I needed this in the worst way!

It was the Holy Spirit. He said to write on this. My cry is to have only that which builds and is good come out of my mouth. God is working on my heart and in the process of healing me so there will not be regrets of what I say. If we could change ourselves through self effort, it would have already happened. We need a Savior because we can’t do it ourselves. I’m so thankful for God’s mercy and love. He loves you and doesn’t grade us on our performance but on Christ Jesus who lives inside of us. Praise God!

I memorized this Psalm when I repeated someone’s story that wasn’t mine to tell. It completely destroyed our relationship. I finally “got” the lesson. ;(

Wow! What motivation to memorize scripture. But not an easy way. It appears you learned and did not repeat the lesson.

Not on such a grand scale, to be sure. 😦

I want to have my tongue and both lips pierced, then put one of those barbells through them. I might stand a chance then.

Only with Yahweh’s help will I overcome. Even with a piercing the wrong sounds would still come out!

One of our greatest needs is to seek the Lord’s seal on our lips when we shouldn’t speak – and to seek His wisdom and guidance when we do.

Yes, one who controls his tongue by the Lord’s wisdom and guidance is wise.
