Chill, Relax, Rest-No Stress

by Hazel Straub

Chill! Chill Out! Have you ever heard these words? Fairbanks, Alaska has received record-breaking cold temperatures recently. When it gets to -35 Fahrenheit (-37 C) and colder, it forces one to slow down. It takes time to warm the car, get dressed with winter gear, etc. Although life continues, it is at a slower pace. You still go to work but many extra activities become curtailed or cancelled.

God is calling us to chill, relax and rest. It is time to cease the busyness that keeps us from listening to the voice of God. Leave the stress and rest in the Lord. During the Holidays, it is easy to become busy with many good things. God is saying, “Chill, and relax. Cease and desist taking burdens that belong to me. Leave the tyranny of the urgent and rest in me. Let me have your stress, so you can be at your best.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Chill as defined by the Urban Dictionary:
1. to calm down
2. cool
3. to hang out
4. to be easy-going
5. a little bit cold
6. its ok
