Let’s be honest, not everyone is honest. Here are some examples:
“Hello, Brother Watermelon. How are you?”
“I am blessed and highly favored!”
(YEAH, RIGHT!)
“Hello, Sister Cantaloupe. How are you?”
“I am excellent.”
(STOP LYING!)
“Hello, Mr. Chocolate Bar. How was your day?”
“Oh, the Lord is good all the time.”
(STOP BEING RELIGIOUS!)
In relationship, God created us not only to worship him, but as helpers for one another. He wants us being real with each other. It does not make us bad people, if “How have you been feeling?” brings our response, “I haven’t been feeling well lately.” We say by program, “I am excellent. I am blessed and highly favored,” or some other religious answer and we don’t tell the truth. Part of relationship, is honest communication, which is worship to God. If we are “going through,” in our heart or body, and a friend asks,“How are you?” don’t lie. Be honest. Because that friend can pray with you, or listen, as you tell what is troubling you. Caution: Make sure God wants you to unload to this person because some people are nosy and prey upon your weaknesses.
Leaders have a tendency to hold back because:
1. They want to look good.
2. They lack trust.
3. They want to keep a certain reputation
4. They feel like the person can’t handle the truth.
5. “I can handle it, I’m alright.”
Whatever it is, don’t hold it inside. It will make you sick. God is always available. Sometimes he wants us to come straight to him. Other times it’s okay with him to talk to someone. He may send people to listen, as you complain about your day or fuss about how he or she got on your nerves. Why? Because this is an avenue of release, freedom and healing. God believes in covenant relationship. He understands humans enjoy face-to-face contact. Look at David and Jonathan, Moses and Aaron, Ruth and Naomi, Jesus and Peter, James and John. Hello! Even Jesus had someone with whom to talk. Also, we first need honesty with ourselves, before we can show honesty to others. When we stop lying to ourselves, we can stop lying to others. A part of transparency is letting someone see the raw side of you. This can also bring deliverance to them, because you won’t seem like a super Christian.
