In some ways we have become “experts at worship.” We know all the forms, learned songs, the top ten gospel songs, and the right things to say and even how to be emotional. However, do we know the heart of God? Do we know what he desires? Are we daily giving the worship he desires, or just in church?
God wants so much more than a Cain offering of songs, music, and worship, we plan for Him. Let’s give him what he desires, not what we desire to give.

Inspired by the daily reading of His Word we worship Him through our daily actions. Thank you for reminding us of the right kind of worship!

I think about God telling the Hebrews that the incense was a stink in his nostrils and the sacrifice had become a vain obligation because their hearts were not in it.

Very true! God wants our hearts. He doesn’t want just anything we want to give but obedience to his desires.

When we reduce worship down to the point of rituals we’re telling God that he’s no different than pagan idol that we can control with our behavior. It’s a very dangerous situation to place ourselves in. Christ is just and faithful to forgive us but it must break his heart to think that we’ve missed the point.

The only thing the bible tells us is, that God “desires” to be worshipped in Spirit and Truth (John 4:24). All other verses encourage us to (Rom 12:1-2) do so in an worthy manner, ascribing (1 Chron 16:29) all Glory due His name and in a reverent manner (Ps 95:6).

Yes, God desires to be worshipped in Spirit and Truth. Also, he requires obedience as worship. He wants us to give him what he requires not what we want to give. “And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt in offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)
