The Lord Is For Me!

by Hazel Straub

Troubled? Pray to the Lord. Cry to the Lord and he answers. He is for us and pleasing him is important. People pleasing never works but trusting in God brings rewards.

In my distress I prayed to the Lord,
and the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me?
Yes, the Lord is for me; he will help me.
I will look in triumph at those who hate me.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in people.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes. (Psalm 118:5-9 NLT)

  1. I’ve never really read the line, “What can mere people do to me” in a positive light before, only in a negative sense, I’ve read it to mean; the harm mere people can cause is nothing compared to the blessings and glory of God. But if I think about it in a positive light, i.e. what good things can mere people do to me? or What reward can I get from people? Compared to the reward God has for us, rewards from people are pretty lame too! People pleasing really isn’t worth it. Thanks Hazel, L

    • Lauren, it is so true that people pleasing brings no rewards of lasting value. People change and shift. Someone can be popular with man one minute and then they change and and take offense. God is true and faithful. So much better to get God’s approval. You are welcome! Hazel
