Hear Counsel

by Hazel Straub

God is always speaking but we are not always listening. He speaks in the Word of God and we gain wisdom, when we study and mediate on it. He also sends us wise counsel and correction for our benefit. When we listen, submit and obey instruction, life goes better for each one of us.

Hear counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, that you may be wise in the time to come. Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand. (Proverbs 19:20-21 AMPC)

  1. This is so true. I’m very grateful for the Lord’s patient instruction and correction in my life. Sometimes when He first gives me correction, I’m not happy about it, but as I go ahead and obey it, I find that my life is much better because of it. And just yesterday, He used me to give some Word-based, loving correction to another minister who has gotten into a bad habit of putting down other ministers in a very grievous manner. It’s a serious thing in God’s eyes. But he simply would not receive any correction or counsel at all — not from me or from another minister who tried to give it as well. It’s very sad, because it’s his own ministry that will eventually suffer because of his un-Christlike behavior.

    • Thank you for sharing. Correction and counsel are not always easy to receive but when heeded, it brings abundant life and walking closer to the Lord.
