Lifestyle of Fasting

by Hazel Straub

God is calling us to a Lifestyle of Fasting. Depend on God not yourself.
Sacrifice your flesh. Stop wavering; live a lifestyle of 100% God.

Rest in me and don’t lean on your own understanding. Stop trying to always figure things out. Be prompt to obey me. You are my sheep and come at my call. Lay aside the “I have always done it this way.” Rest in me, not in your own prowess and not in the routine. I am calling you to ask me what to do and to do it.

This is a time of consecration and new dedication to me. It’s time to get rid of the old and to let me clothe you in my new garments. A time to humble yourself before me. To seek me and make me first in everything you do. Dedicate the first hour upon awakening to me. Listen and let me direct your day. Fast from trying to figure out everything. Leave your intellect. Be quick to obey and to listen to me. I am calling you into closer bonds of love with me.

Rest and quit striving. Come to me. Leave the flesh behind. No sweets, leave fluff behind. Quit doing it on your own. Lean into me and depend on me, not yourself. Fast from negativity. Fast from complaining. Fast from depending only on yourself and your own resources. Run to me, ask me first. Lean into me. Depend on me. Consult me first. First, in all you do. Listen and obey. I’m calling you closer.

Fasting from negativity, complaining, self-dependence, self-authority . . . these should be a part of everyday life, but sadly not always so.
    Thanks for the challenge.
