God is examining our hearts today. He is checking our motives. Do you bless someone with a gift, to become noticed or the favorite one? What are your motives? Do you help someone by paying their bills or to help them out of a serious bind, only to keep a record of what you do, to hold against them? What are your motives? Do you do a good deed only for recognition or to get attention? What are your motives? Are you in a race to tell someone about something before the other person can get to him or her, only because you want the praise? What are your motives? Do you keep asking someone for financial help because you know they are financially secure? What are your motives? Here is a scenario. A person has money in their pocket to pay a bill, get groceries or gas, but they don’t want to spend all their money. Instead they ask someone else for a loan they can’t pay back. What are your motives?
God is examining our hearts today. What we do for God will last. So don’t do it dishonestly. Don’t do it with the wrong motives. Do it unto the Lord. Don’t be secretive. God loves it when we are a blessing to others. It disappoints him, when our motives are wrong. As a matter of fact, it’s sin.
