Kicking Against The Prick

by Apostle Christiana Robinson

To kick against the prick, means to rebel against God, authority or someone God has placed in our life to help us. Sometimes we kick against the prick, when God has asked us to do certain things and we don’t do it. Sometimes, God asks us to do practical things and we choose not to do it. An example of kicking against the prick is sinning against our bodies, when God has told us how to treat it. For example: not eating right, not resting, proper exercising, not abstaining from sexual sins against the body, listening to negative material, speaking negatively, and abusing our bodies with drugs. Another example of kicking against the prick, is not receiving his correction and or responding to correction in a rebellious way.

A prick is used to control an ox, in farming. The farmer directs the ox to go left or right by using a type of tool called a prick to poke the ox. When the ox, refuses to move and becomes stubborn and rebellious, it kicks against the prick. The prick goes deeper into their skin hurting them. If only the ox, would obey. We act stubborn, when God tells us what to do and we don’t change. We act stubborn, when God tells us how to do a certain thing and we refuse, or ignore him, or we keep doing the same old thing over and over. Jesus told Saul “Why do you kick against the prick?” The Lord asks us sometimes, “Why do you kick against the prick? Why do you ignore my directions?”

Let’s not kick against the prick. Everyone is guilty of doing it. But God is instructing us to listen to his voice, submit and obey.  He loves us so much. Instead of kicking against the prick, kick the devil’s butt, by exemplifying obedience and submission to God.
