Do Not Keep Track of Giving

by Apostle Christiana Robinson

When we give, let it not be grudgingly or out of necessity, but cheerfully. What are our motives, when we give? Do we expect them to pay us back? Sometimes we give compulsively, because we see someone is in need, instead of first asking God. At times, God asked us to give and we ignored him. Other times we give so much because we just LOVE to give, we can’t help ourselves. What we do for others has to be of God and from the heart.

Once we’ve done something for someone, don’t keep track. If we do, the door is open to Pride, “Look what I have done for you, you owe me.”  Instead expect God to reimburse you, to bless you, to open up the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing you won’t have room to receive. If we boast and brag about what we do for others, we have already received our reward. Some things we do for others need to stay a secret, between us, the person, and God, unless God says use this experience, as a testimony or praise report. Those that keep track, lose focus. The focus is no longer pure worship (giving is worship, when it’s God), and becomes prideful giving and not worship. Before we give today, whether our money, our time, our wisdom etc., ask God and make sure our motives are right, otherwise don’t do it.
